Megan Tan, The Cover Girl!

If you told me 10 years ago, I’d be gracing the covers of several magazines on newsstands, I would have never believed you.

This may come across as real superficial but I believe in celebrating every milestone, no matter how big or small. Well, in this case no matter how superficial. It has always been a dream of mine to be on the cover of a magazine. I was that typical girly-girl who dreamt of becoming a model at the age of 9, loved fashion and beauty magazines, which led me to my dream of wanting to be on the cover of one.The road to getting there wasn’t completely smooth sailing though. As a teenager, I would send in my application to every cover girl contest for years until I outgrew the age limit. I was that persistent!

As you may have already guessed it, I didn’t make it to a single one. I have to be completely honest that my self-esteem took a little beating. I asked myself, was I not pretty enough? When you’ve been rejected that many times, it’s hard not to feel down.

Sometimes, even if you persevere, it may not mean guaranteed success. I know it sounds morbid but don’t ever let that stop you from trying and giving it your best shot! If it still doesn’t work out, then move on. No regrets.

The reality is, things may not always turn out the way you hope and there’s always a reason for it. It simply wasn’t meant to be and that’s okay. Life has its way of surprising you because here I am today, smiling from cheek to cheek as I stare at these.
