If you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything at all.
Most definitely, easier said than done.
It’s been awards season lately and a big part of it is of course, the red carpet interviews and looks! As much as I focus on the hosting style and Q&A, like most girls, I pay a whole lot of attention to the fashion as well. I must admit; I am guilty of passing judgment about the fashion choices that the celebs make. I partially blame it on Fashion Police (haha).
Until I stumbled upon this article recently which got me thinking. We often say that fashion or style is a reflection of our personality and how we feel on the inside. So why should we criticise the dress or outfit choices of not just the celebs on the red carpet, but anyone for that matter?
I believe that criticism in fashion and beauty should only be given when asked. That way, the person is open enough to listen and genuinely want the advice. I made the mistake of telling someone outrightly that his shoes were hideous. And now here I am, thinking to myself, “What gave me the right to say that?” At that point of time, I thought I was doing him a favour but the actual fact is, I would have hurt his feelings by criticising his sense of style and indirectly criticising him as a person. Just because you wouldn’t wear a look doesn’t mean others shouldn’t.
Don’t get me wrong. This article isn’t written to make you feel horrible about yourselves or anything but it’s meant to perhaps remind you to hold that tongue of yours, take a moment to think about what you’re gonna say before you do. Merely a point to ponder. Share your thoughts with me.
For the record, I still love Fashion Police.
And on a more positive note, here are my favorite picks from the red carpet this year.
